Dear Friend and Supporter,
For more than sixteen years, Showers Foundation Health Center has been a beacon of hope for some of the most vulnerable families in northern Uganda. Founded in 2009 in Nebbi District, our mission has remained simple yet profound: to provide compassionate, quality healthcare to all who come through our doors, regardless of their ability to pay.
Today, with a dedicated team of approximately twenty healthcare professionals, we serve patients twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Many of those who seek care are among the poorest members of our communities. For them, the health center is often the only accessible source of medical care and hope.
What began as a small effort to meet local needs has grown into a lifeline for thousands. Patients now travel not only from Nebbi District and neighboring communities but also from across the border in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Every day, mothers bring sick children, families seek urgent care for loved ones, and individuals facing illness turn to us in their moments of greatest need.
While we are grateful for the trust our communities place in us, the growing number of patients has stretched our facilities. Exam rooms are crowded, patient demand continues to rise, and space limitations challenge our ability to provide the level of care every person deserves.
To respond to this urgent need, we are undertaking the construction of a new wing that will significantly expand our capacity to serve. This addition will allow us to accommodate more patients, improve the quality and efficiency of care, expand our emergency and recovery rooms, and create a more welcoming and healing environment for those who come to us seeking help.
But our vision extends beyond physical healing.
As part of this project, we also hope to build a Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, creating a sacred space where patients, families, and caregivers can find comfort, strength, and peace during difficult times. Lourdes is known throughout the world as a place of healing and hope. This Grotto will remind all who visit that healthcare is not only about treating the body but also about caring for the mind and the human spirit. Each brick on the Grotto will be dedicated to a donor.
Together, the new wing and the Our Lady Lourdes Grotto will create a place where physical healing and spiritual support come together, offering compassionate care for the whole person.
